A Woman With Goals: 3 Ways to Start, Stay, and Finish Strong

It’s the beginning of the 3rd month of the year, and it seems that the New Year is no longer new after all. I can’t believe we are halfway through the first quarter already. Usually, at the beginning of a new year, some people like me write out their goals, some call it new year resolutions, while some just make a list or mental note of the things they’d like to achieve in that year; be it personal, career, spiritual, emotional etc.

Most people with a sense of purpose make goals that have the potential to make them a better person, spouse, parent, believer etc. They eagerly start the year with a view of the desired end in mind.

However, I have realized that as time goes on, as the demands of everyday life take their toll, and as soon as there is an unexpected turn of events, we start to gradually slow down and momentum diminishes in the race to actualize our goals.

So what happens to our plans when we are sidetracked by an unexpected incident or overwhelmed by everyday living?

Starting strong is great and gives us a good head start, however we need to remain strong and focused when things may not be going as well.

Of course we all wish to reach our goals, but are we determined to pay the price?

Research shows that 70 percent of goal setters fail to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. This finding is alarming but what can you do to ensure you are not part of the statistics this year?

Here are 3 ways A Woman With Goals can finish strong:

Be determined:

Don’t give up on your goals even if things aren’t going as planned. Rewards are for finishers, not those who try. 

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

Avoid distractions:

The more we feed our distractions, the less focused we will be. To me, distractions are like open applications – apps that are no longer in use or were never needed. However they remain in the background draining life and battery from the device. Just like those apps, distractions limit our ability to function effectively.

Even if you didn’t start strong at the beginning of the year, you can still start now. 

Pray:

When you pray, Be truthful about your weaknesses. Share with God which areas in your life may need a little more help than others. Ask for help daily. 

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you (Psalm 37:5)

Whatever you do this year, don’t allow anything: good or bad, to stop you from fulfilling your plans.

There will always be curveballs or roadblocks. The enemy will try his hardest to keep you from advancing God’s kingdom. In fact, the greater the worth of your pursuit, the greater the resistance you will experience. But don’t give in, stay focused and the end will be worth it!
