Their spiriutal development is as important as their acaedmic and intellectual maturity. Their spititual foundation is vital to their handling of issues and challenges that they will encounter. The bible said that when they are OLD, they will not depart from it. So I believe it is our responsiblity as parents to direct them to the correct paths in life.
