If you are brokenhearted today, you still have great reason to praise God. He is the victor over this world, evil, death, and even Satan.
God is the Creator and the Savior. Psalm 147 reveals that He is all-powerful and imparts His victory to all who are humble enough to seek Him.
In Jesus Christ we can know that our sufferings are temporary, because our eternal, ever-present, and infinitely wise God will heal every wound. He is not only just and holy, but also gracious, merciful, loving, and good, with infinite power, wisdom, and presence. Brokenhearted? Trust in Him and praise Him
Here are five great Bible verses that should encourage the brokenhearted.
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
This is one of the greatest verses in the Bible for those who feel crushed by some terrible event.
This might have been a result of something that broke their heart, like a death in the family or of a friend, the end of a relationship, or even a serious illness.
When you are feeling the most broken in life, you are also nearer to God. God promises to save “the crushed in spirit.”
Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”
This was a prophecy of Isaiah the Prophet (Isaiah 61:1-2) which was fulfilled by Jesus Christ when “he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read” Isaiah’s quote, (Luke 4:16), and then said, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21).
They were astonished that He spoke with such authority, and why not? It was written about Him.
Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
In the time when Jesus had His earthly ministry, oxen were often used to grind wheat, plow fields, and even pull a load, but they would usually share the load by having a yoke attached to both them so that they could work together and the weight would be spread out between them.
It would also help to keep them at the same pace and going in the right direction. So in this way, if those who are feeling overloaded by life, Jesus tells them to come to Him and take His yoke upon you.
Guess what? You can bear a lot more in life by taking His yoke. It’s the only way you’ll “find rest for your souls,” and maybe even your bodies.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
If you’re feeling down because you’ve blown it big time (like most of us have), maybe it’s time to confess it and clear your conscience.
We can be the hardest person in the world to forgive. We make a harsh jury in judging ourselves, so if that’s what’s got you down, please remember that Jesus died for us while still His enemy (Rom 5:10), and doesn’t want us to lose the joy of our salvation over something that God forgives.
1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”
Are you or someone you know going through a very difficult time in their life (or your life)?
Today, we can only imagine what glory is coming our way (Romans 8:18).
We can only see through to the kingdom as through a dark, tinted glass, and those glimpses only come through Scripture, in particular, Revelation 21 and 22. Those verses might mend any broken heart.
I hope these verses can help the many who are brokenhearted and crushed by life.
The Word of God not only has power (Rom 1:16; 1st Cor 1:18), it can strengthen you by reading the sure and certain promises of God.
