This new invention will lower the stress levels for parents of college-aged daughters across the nation. Drink Savvy, a Boston-based company, has created a material that detects the presence of odorless, colorless, and tasteless date r*pe drugs placed into drinks.
Founder Mike Abramson said he plans to create a line of products (e.g. straws, stirrers, glass ware, cups) in hopes of reducing date rape. “Within the past three years, three of my very close friends and myself have been the unwitting victims of being drugged,” Abramson said in a fundraising video.
Although he is awesome and incredibly brilliant, Abramson is not the first person to create products that detect the presence of the spiked drinks, last year Israeli scientists announced the development of a sensor that resembles a straw or a stirrer that can detect the two most commonly used date r*pe drugs with 100 percent accuracy. The most common date r*pe drugs are: GHB, Ketamine and Rohypnol. Abramson estimates that more than a million people every year are unknowingly drugged and s*xually assaulted. In the fundraising video, he said he hopes his product will “prevent someone you care about from possibly being the victim of drug-facilitated s*xual assault.”
