My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. (James 3:12)
God wants you to be who you need to be, Who He created you to be. He doesn’t want you to portray yourself as someone that you are not. Not a fig tree trying to bear olives. Not a grapevine trying to bear figs.
Be the entrepreneur that you need to be.
Be the mom that your kids need.
Be the wife that your husband need.
Be the friend that the people around you need.
Be that hardworking woman on the work floor.
Be that woman that is called to do God’s work in whatever way that may be.
James is talking about a spring of flowing water, something that has movement. But he is also talking about a fig tree and grapevine, these are things that grow, blossom and bear fruit. James knew that God sees us as fruit bearers. He knew that we have the capacity to grow and blossom.
We can’t blossom, if we’re too busy denying who we are. We can’t expect people to accept us “as we are” if we are not willing to show them who we really are. We don’t have to hide behind a mask or pretend that everything is okay or pretend to be someone we’re not. He is the one who made us and He knows very well how we are stitched together. He knew us even before we were made in the womb. He already had a plan for your life before you were born. You are here with a goal and a purpose.
You must stand in the gifts and talents that God gave to you. Right now you may be thinking to yourself…” What if I don’t have any gifts or talents.” You do, but there is a very big chance that you are the only person who is holding you back. Stop wearing a mask for God and the people around you. God’s approval is all that matters. There’s an old saying that goes… “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” Well you can’t fool God none of the time! He knows all and sees all.
Sometimes it’s easier to put on a mask and live your day-to-day life. Everything is done on auto pilot. You seem to think it’s so much easier to act like there is nothing wrong. Maybe you are suffering from pain from the past. Something that happened to you a long time ago but it still hurts. So wearing a mask and using your auto pilot are the easiest and quickest pain killers. But pain produces more pain if not dealt with in the right way.
You are not living your full God given potential if you are a fig tree that is acting like an olive tree. God made you as you are in order to use you for His purpose .
