Most likely if you’re being pressured, you’re reluctant to do something to begin with. Think about it… no one has to be convinced and persuaded to do something they already want to do.
If you’re reluctant, there’s probably a good reason which shouldn’t be ignored or taken lightly.
On the other hand, sometimes we are just too comfortable with being where we are that we are afraid to move forward. Sometimes a good push is needed in order to do so.
How do you decide what is the right decision to make? Here are 4 things to do when you feel pressured to do something.
1. Weigh the Pros and Cons
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. – Proverbs 14:12
What do you have to gain?
Write down all of the possible benefits. When you think about what you have to gain or about doing what others want you to do, does it make you feel happy, assured, relaxed, or excited? If so, this could be a sign that you should take a leap of faith and trust God while moving forward.
What do you have to lose?
Write down all of the possible disadvantages. When you think about what you have to lose or about doing what others want you to do, does it make you feel sad, anxious, stressed, or guilty? If so, this could be a sign that you are probably about to do something you should not.
2. Think About The Consequences
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7
Are the consequences worth it?
If you do what others want you to do will you have to sacrifice something more valuable? Like your health, your morals, your dignity, your relationship, and maybe even your sanity.
Will God be glorified in your decision?
What does the Bible say about the situation you’re in? Find at least 3 scriptures that can provide clarity on what you should do. You’d be surprised to find that the Bible is full of stories and inspiration for situations we may find ourselves in on a daily basis.
3. Consider the source
“Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” – Matthew 15:14
Does this person who is pressuring you have your best interest in mind?
Sometimes people will persuade us to do things that they would never be willing to do themselves. They only want what’s beneficial to them. Even if it’s at the cost of others.
Do you trust and value this person’s opinion and advice?
Someone who has little to no values or belief in God should not have much of an influence on you. When you think about it… It’s sort of like the blind leading the blind.
4. Pray About it
Take your concerns to God in prayer. Trust His answer. Ask for clarity and for His will to be done in your situation. Rebuke the enemy from having any kind of power over your situation.
The enemy is always busy trying to get us to do things that are contrary to what God wants us to do. At some point we will all bump heads with the devil. If you’re not bumping heads with the devil, it’s probably because you’re running in the same direction as he is.
Remember, as Christians we are called to stand out from the world, not fit in. Never feel pressured to do something you know for sure is wrong.
