Imagine finding the perfect church home and finally feeling like you “belong” so to speak. Only to find six months later, you receive a collection notice from the church stating that if you fail to meet your past due balance and finacial obligations you will be removed from the church roster. You will no longer be considered as a member.
According to Candance Petterson who spoke with ABC Action News The letter stated:
Adults are mandated to contribute the following:
Tithes/ Dues $50 (per month)
Donations toward “Mount Moriah Day” $150
Donations toward Church anniversary Celebration $250
Children under 18 are mandated to contribute the following:
Tithes/ Dues $5 (per month)
Donations toward “Mount Moriah Day” $15
Donations toward Church anniversary Celebration $15
After learning of the church’s collection attempts, social media users have been flooding the Mount Moriah Facebook page with comments about their policies.
Question: Does the church have the right to force members to pay their tithes and offerings?
Please share your thoughts.
