Are you finding it difficult to break spiritual strongholds?
Whether you’re dealing with adultery, fornicating, drug addiction, over-eating, or whatever “it” may be for you… I’m here to tell you, you can overcome it!
Here are 6 Necessary Steps To Break Spiritual Strongholds:
1. Identify The Problem.
Before you can break spiritual strongholds, you must first admit that there is a problem.
Is it sinful?
Is it keeping you from being a better version of yourself?
Do you feel guilty every time you do it?
Now that you have identified your spiritual strongholds, it’s time to identify it’s triggers:
Are you tempted mainly when you are stressed? When you are with certain people? When you are feeling lonely? Certain times of the day/month/year? etc. We all deal with things differently. So naturally we will have different triggers.
Once you identify your trigger, surrender it over to God and proceed to the next step.
2. Pray About It.
It’s no secret that prayer is a powerful weapon.
If you’ve been trying your best to break spiritual strongholds and you’re starting to feel hopeless and trapped, stop for a moment and pray a simple, but sincere prayer.
Dear Lord,
I know that I am not perfect. I know sometimes I do things I should not do. There are times when I am tempted to do wrong and I desperately need your help. At times I may even question my faith, but thank You for loving me unconditionally and giving me another day to start over again!
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
3. Get in The Word.
If you’re already doing so, consider increasing your Bible Reading Time.
The more time you spend filling your mind with Godly things, the less time to you’ll have to focus on earthly things and to fall prey to the enemy’s tactics.
One of my favorite scriptures to run to when I feel overwhelmed is Romans 12:2.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
4. Evaluate Your Circle.
Sometimes it’s best to start by evaluating the people whom we spend most of our time with…
The people who have the most influence on us daily.
You want to let go of that toxic relationship/ friendship, but you find it hard to distance yourself from that same person who keeps you bound to your bad habit/sin.
1 Corinthians 15:33 says “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
We are called to be Christ-like, but we can not walk with Christ if we are allowing someone else to pull us in the opposite direction.
5. Join a Ministry or Support Group.
The reason why most AA (Alcoholic Anonymous) members are more successful at staying sober than others who choose to do it on their own is because they have support.
No matter how strong you think you are, you cannot go through life thinking you can do everything all alone. Surrender it to God first and then seek help from like minded people who can relate and who are sympathetic to what you are going through.
Everyone needs at least one person who can hold them accountable for their actions when they start to drift away from God.
Always remember that… “Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
6. Replace Bad Habits with Good Habits
Try something new.
Have you ever noticed that whenever you start something new, it’s fun and exciting in the beginning?
…Well a new hobby can be a good distraction to a sinful habit. The point is to get your mind to focus on more positive things so that you’re not so consumed with old bad habits.
Exercise, Read a good book, but whatever you do, don’t just sit there. Staying busy is key when trying to break spiritual strongholds. An idol mind is the devil’s playground.
Volunteering, Helping others are real good ways to keep you occupied as well… and it’s for a good cause.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
