Bishop Barnett K. Thoroughgood had just finished his Sunday sermon called “I Am Here to do Battle” when he sat down in his seat on stage, and collapsed. Soon after, he was pronounced dead. Members of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ prayed and cried as paramedics tried to revive their 62-year-old pastor to no avail. “He died doing what he loved,” church member Mable Beckett told a local reporter. Beckett attended the servicewhere Thoroughgood took his last breath. “He lived the life he was called to, right up until the end,” she added. Thoroughgood founded New Jerusalem about 42 years ago. The church has since grown to…

I think we sometimes focus on some of the more obvious sins that we sometimes forget about the  most common ones that we commit  daily. God wants you to lose weight! At least that’s what a new book called Bod 4 God by Pastor Steve Reynolds preaches. While The View host Whoopi Goldberg worried she was ‘going to hell’ for not choosing faith over food, fellow cast member Sherri Shepherd insisted church people don’t talk about gluttony enough. What do you think? 1 Corinthians 3 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells…

A Bible may have helped a woman survive in the face of a horrific crime. Last Wednesday, Lindsay Wood, a 32-year-old woman from Shelby, North Carolina, had only just returned from Bible study when an intruder walked into her home, ABC affiliate WSOC reported. Then, without an apparent motive, the attacker slit her throat. Wood’s son was out dropping off the trash. When he saw what was happening, he hid behind the side of the house. “She told (the attacker) please not to hurt her, that she loved the Lord and her son,” neighbor Faye Cooke told WSOC. When…

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. ~Exodus 14:14 I know sometimes you want to crawl up in a corner and Pray to God that your problems just go away. But, that’s not exactly how it works! Problems are meant to be defeated, We should not be defeated by our problems. If God took away every problem that we encountered, every time we prayed, We would never know how it feels to overcome them. You can’t have a victory without winning the battle, just as you can’t have a testimony without passing God’s test. Instead of…

As a child, we all dream about what we would like to be as an adult. By the time we reach adulthood, that dream has probably changed quite a few times. What changes? Fear and Doubt! When we are children, we believe that nothing is impossible because that’s what we’re taught. As we grow older, we began to doubt our abilities and fear failure. We then began to set goals that seem more achievable. Some of us are stuck at a job that we dread to go to everyday because we are afraid to go after our passion.

Christian quarterback for the Denver Broncos Tim Tebow has taken a lot of flak for his faith. Players from other teams, as well as fans, have openly mocked and ridiculed Tebow’s Christian beliefs, and even media outlets have taken jabs at his faith. Still, Tebow has remained steadfast and has attracted the attention of fellow Christian Kurt Warner, a former quarterback for the New York Giants and St. Louis Rams, who has some advice for Tebow: “Tone down the public displays of your faith.” Tebow is not ashamed of his faith. He began his postgame news conference Sunday by thanking…

I woke up this morning freezing! As I do every morning, but this particular morning it was different! I cleared my eyes and pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t having a nightmare. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was actually sleeping outside, on the street. How did I get here? All I knew was that I had to get home before someone I knew saw me. I had no money… So I had no bus fare, no cell phone… so I couldn’t call anyone. I began to walk home in confusion. What is going on? Have I…

Most of us watched and followed yesterday as Troy Davis’ fate was determined by the Supreme Court. I have to admit that I had mixed emotions throughout the day as I followed the coverage through several media outlets. I prayed, I cried, I became very angry, I even ALMOST forgot that I was a Christian for a second! Lol With that said, NO ONE has the right to play God!!! Whether it be a guilty or not guilty! Don’t get me wrong! I’m not in any way or fashion saying that it’s okay to murder someone and NOT pay the…
