How many times have you said the word sorry today? You might be using it more than you realize—and that’s the message behind this provocative new commercial from Pantene.
Something to think about, right?
When things don’t go as planned, or we allow our insecurities to creep into the present moment, saying “I’m sorry” can be the easy path out of awkwardness.
Obviously, it’s important to apologize when you’re in the wrong. If you are, go ahead and whip out the s-word.
But many of us might also be frequently saying sorry for things that aren’t our fault and not even notice it. So, with that in mind.
Here are 10 things you should never apologize for:
Being You
Have you ever heard of the phrase “Do you!”? Well that’s a perfect reminder to never apologize for being yourself and doing what you have to do for you and only you. People will try to put you in a “box” and limit your capabilities. Don’t fall victim that, be authentically you and let everyone us catch up.
Self Confidence
Showing confidence is one thing, being cocky is another. Loving who you are and and feeling good about yourself is a must. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Your beliefs/ Morals
Your beliefs and values are what makes you “You”. Never feel bad about standing up for what you believe in. Sometimes it may be hard to be authentic in a society where superficial is praised. Be yourself unapologetically.
Wanting more out of life
Wanting more out of life doesn’t necessarily mean that you are ungrateful for the life you have. Some people are comfortable with the bare minimums of life. Don’t let them make you feel bad for wanting more.
Your Success
You should never apologize for the things you’ve accomplished, the accolades you’ve received or the amazing career you have. Your hard work and sacrifice are the reason why you’ve achieved so much. We often down play our success to make other people feel comfortable. I’m not saying you should brag and make someone else feel inferior, but don’t ever apologize for what you’ve worked so hard to obtain.
Needing some ‘me time’
It’s understandable and essential—not selfish. Sometimes it’s just one of those days when you want to be left alone.” We all have times when we want to be alone. It’s ok to feel and do so. Don’t apologize for being human and wanting to be left alone sometimes.
Disagreeing with someone’s opinion
As long as you make your point respectfully, you’re 1,000 percent entitled to it. It can be tough sometimes, but there’s nothing wrong with sticking to your guns.
Crying
You’re human. You have emotions. Tears are not a sign of weakness. Whether you cry tears of joy or tears of pain, you are allowed to be human. Granted, some people are a little more emotional than others. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for being human.
Asking For What You Want
Otherwise, how will anybody know what you want? If you don’t ask, the answer will always be no. You know what you want, and asking for it will only make your life easier.
Forgiving Someone
Have you ever forgiven someone only for your friends to wonder why you did so? They still wanted to keep the beef going while you were content with letting the situation go.
Forgiveness is another one of those things that can improve your mental well-being, so it’s not worth apologizing for forgiving someone.
