Some people live by the motto “When All Else Fails, Pray”. Prayer should be your steering wheel, not your spare tire. Pray daily, not just in emergencies.
1 Thessalonians 5:17– Pray without ceasing
I was having lunch with a friend this week and was seated next to a group of women who appeared to be celebrating one of the young ladies birthday.
Our tables weren’t too far from each other so it was easy for us to pick up on each other’s conversations.
From what I gathered, one of the women was having trouble with her teenage son. He had started to rebel after she and her husband decided to divorce last year. She went on to explain to the other ladies that she didn’t know what to do anymore. She had tried everything. Counseling, punishments, talking, and so on.
That’s when one of her female friends chimed in and offered a little advice of her own. She said, “When all else fails, pray!”
I’m not sure what type of relationship these young women had with Christ, but at that moment I couldn’t help but whisper a silent prayer for each of them because I remember a time when I used to live by that motto.
Prayer was for emergencies only. I didn’t understand the power of a healthy prayer life.
Many times we pray ONLY when things are going wrong or when we need God to handle something real quick for us.
God is always there for us no matter what, but sometimes we wait until things have spiraled out of control or until we finally realize that we can’t make it on our own.
I challenge you to make prayer a priority in your household, in your marriage, and in your day to day dealings. The enemy has no power over you as long as you have a prayer on your tongue. So stay prayed up, don’t wait!
Pray when things are going good–
A quick “Thank You Father” only takes a quick moment of your time. Still think you’re too busy? Set a reminder/ alarm everyday
Pray for others in need of prayer–
God remembers our prayers for others in our time of need.
Job 42:10 says … The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the LORD increased all that Job had twofold.
Pray before making decisions–
I can’t tell you how many times I have made important decisions without taking them to God first… and I have regretted every last one of them. Let’s just say they did not end well.
When we pray before making decisions, God will step in and make everything fall into place with no regrets.
Pray when you’re burdened-
There’s no prayer too small and no prayer too big. If it matters to you, it matters to God. Take it to Him before you take it to anyone else.
Don’t wait until you’re in trouble, to seek God. Seek God before trouble seeks you.
