Wondering how to pray over your dating life? One of the biggest challenges in relationships is to make sure we are living out God’s will and not our own.
Sometimes, dating can become the most impatient phase of life. It feels like no one is ever going to just click or work out.
I know it can become tiring and wear you down, but there is always room for prayer in your dating life.
Here are a couple of vital things to remember when praying:
In His Will
Instead of telling God who to make your husband, pray for His will to be done. The one you’re praying for may not be God’s best for you.
Accept that it just may not be God’s will for you to have a spouse right now or ever.
Life is full of stories, many good, some bad, but everything that happens to someone is comprised of one single truth – how it connects with and glorifies God.
So, is it possible to actually glorify the Father in your dating life? Yes.
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.” —1 John 5:14
Believing is already knowing that the Father will come through to His promises; however, it doesn’t mean we get to sit on the sidelines and wait for it. We can’t neglect prayer.
Praying is a way of glorifying, edifying and nourishing your oneness with the Father. It connects and restores you.
It also shows God how committed you are to Him before you commit yourself to a partner on earth. That’s what God is looking for – someone whose heart is so dedicated to Him, that out of His abundance, His blessings flow. His magnificence pours out into that person’s life.
What To Pray For
So, pray unceasingly. Pray that God, first, overwhelms your aching heart.
Pray that He brings you stillness in your singleness.
Pray that He brings you only what He has for you, and pray mightily against the plans of the enemy to distract and destroy you.
Pray for discernment and the strength to resist temptation and fleshy desires.
Pray that God fully reigns, every day, in your life.
Pray for your future spouse.
Pray simply. Pray strongly. Pray out of a heart that seeks to only glorify the Father.
Above all, God is sovereign regardless of your season. He deeply loves you, single or married. He deeply desires you, single or married, and the truth is, He always will. It will always be that way because God connected us to Him, first.
He knows that by daily connecting with Him, it’s not only drawing us closer to His understanding, but to the things and the people He has for us.
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” —Psalm 37:4
God is faithful to our prayers; not one goes unanswered, no matter how it is answered.
Just take the time while dating, whether online or putting yourself in healthy group settings, to pray before dating.
The dating will come, and something will happen one day, and it’s not because you tried the next best dating restaurant or looked your best this time; it’s the prayers you’ve been saying to God.
That’s what the Father looks at and that is what He will honor.
