As I sat in my car at the stoplight at a very busy intersection, I noticed a bird, a pigeon to be exact, wondering around in the middle of the intersection. I wondered first of all “why was it there in the first place?”.
Of all places for a bird to land… in the middle of an intersection on a major street where cars go at speeds up to 60 miles per hour! It was amazing in itself that there were no cars coming through this extremely busy intersection at that time.
I got caught up in watching this bird roam back and forth in circles almost like he was panicking trying to figure out how to get out of this dangerous situation.
I then wondered, “so why wouldn’t it just fly away?!” The stoplight seemed to last forever and I began to get worried about the safety of the bird. Amazingly not one car came.
Then I realized, the Lord was speaking.
As I watched the bird walk around in circles, in a manner which made it seem like it was lost, confused and unable to save itself.
It would try to fly away but couldn’t get off the ground. It walked around some more and tried to fly again, but could not fly.
By this time I was saying out loud “move bird! fly away! oh Lord this bird is about to get hit!, Lord help this bird get out of the street!!”
Just as I turned my head to look way to avoid seeing what was going to happen to this bird if it didn’t fly away soon, a car came barreling down the street.
Just about the time the car was upon the bird, the bird tried to fly away again…and it did! It got just enough wind under its wing to make it to the power line above the stop light!
I immediately heard the Lords voice speaking of Matthew 6:26- “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds (takes care of) them.”
Wow, that’s right.. Why do we worry, walk about confused, in the line of danger, trying to make things happen for ourselves?
I immediately began to praise the Lord and thank HIM! The Holy Spirit began to minister to me about how we are far more valuable to HIM than anything. God loves us.
HE used the analogy of the bird walking around panicking, lost, confused, in the line of danger, trying to fly away on its own but couldn’t to show me how when we trust HIM that HE always comes through for us just in the nick of time.
HE always has our backs!
HE’s always there to rescue us from danger, giving us the “wind under our wings” to make it, and provides everything that we need for life.
If HE did this for a pigeon, how much more would he do for us?? The Holy Spirit even showed me how our prayers and the prayers of others can change a situation instantly.
We need to always be prayerful; we never know when God may move according to our prayers and/or the prayers of others. I had prayed, really without even realizing it, for the bird, “Lord help this bird get out of the street!” God hears our prayers and moves, delivers and saves accordingly.
HIS Word does say in James 5:16 that “the prayers of the righteous availeth much”.. that righteousness is not of our own but through our faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Needless to say I received so much out of this occurrence with the bird. I was blown away by hearing His voice in watching this bird!
God can use anything to speak to us, and He does! ….even the birds in the air, and in this case the bird on the ground!
