As I wake up in the morning and rush my children through their daily routine; how easy it is to forget the fruits of the spirit just read in last night’s devotional.
As the house fills with complaints of “mom she’s still in the bathroom”, “Go walk the dog”, and “Honey, have you seen my reports” I begin to wonder if my pastor’s benediction will last until we meet again.
And then I remember as all becomes calm and I take my time with the Lord, that He is where my strength comes from. This scene or something similar may play out in your home as well.
It is Okay to feel unraveled. We must remember that we are emotional beings. There are moments where we lose our peace, joy, goodness, patience, kindness, etc. and need to recognize those moments.
I don’t know about you but there sure are moments during those chaotic mornings that I am running low on those virtues.
Circumstances can cause us to act out in our human nature and forget just who created us and what we are capable of. We are God’s children who have been made in His image, full of strength and power.
Yet in chaotic or stressful moments we may tend to forget. And so, in the mix of emotion laden scenes that play out in our lives, we may put those virtues that the Lord equipped us with in a lockbox.
But we need to take time to calm our mind and spirit and give our self what the Lord so freely gives us daily and that is grace.
I don’t know about you but when I lose my virtues when handling circumstances I tend to feel guilty. It wasn’t until one day I realized that if the God we serve gives us Grace then should we not give ourselves the same grace?
The Lord who created us knows that we will fall short of Glory. We need to ask Him to help us to have virtues of peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, joy, love, faithfulness, and self-control.
Praying and asking Him for His help is all part of our process of sanctification. Once I came to the realization that this is the walk that I am having as a praying Christian woman I found peace.
We are not here walking alone. We are walking with God who understands us in all our emotions.
It is important to take the time to come out of the circumstance that is causing you to forget or lock away the virtues that the Lord instructs us to embrace in Galatians 5:23.
Once you have remove yourself, keeping in mind that removal may be changing the circumstance into a calmer tone, you need to pray about that circumstance and for the people involved in the circumstance.
Lastly, pray for yourself thanking the Lord for His grace and that He teaches you to have grace upon yourself during stressful or chaotic circumstances.
