woman and man talking

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)

Have you ever noticed how easy it is for us to put God on the back burner, yet everyone and everything else gets our undivided attention? We work Him in our schedule when we should be working our schedule around Him!

Our Relationships, Families, Careers, and even material things become our main focus, yet we wonder why we have so many problems holding on to them.

It’s okay to love others and want to be loved back. We all desire to have a loving relationship, but we have to be careful not to let them become more important or more of a priority than our relationship with God.

I am here to tell you that no one, absolutely no one will ever love you as much as God loves you. Our friends, family, our spouses;  they all fall short just like we do. Yet some of us are holding these same people to the same standard we hold God… If not above.

We pray for a Godly man but when God sends him to us, we forget all about God. This person is now the person we go to when we’re going through hard times.

Let’s be clear… I’m in no way saying that we shouldn’t confide in others. We all need a support system or someone to lean on in our times of need. But what I am saying is that we should be taking it to God first in prayer. God should be the one we rely on. Not man.

It’s a blessing to have loved ones there to console you when things are breaking your heart, but why not take it to the person who can actually do something about it. Pray about it and let God fix it.

Even our work relationships get priority over God. And believe me, I get it. We have to work hard to pay the bills. But where does God fit in our busy schedules? We rush throughout the day, going from here to there, barely finding time to pray, read our bible, and worship.

When I was married, If my husband didn’t feel like going to church, I didn’t feel like going to church. If I was asked to work late on a Wednesday night, “No problem”, I’ll just go to Bible Study next week. But if I was asked to work on a Sunday “Sorry, I can’t do that” Not because  I didn’t want to miss church, but because Sunday was our “family day”.

Notice the pattern? My relationship with God was not my priority… And how many of us know that if God is not your priority, nothing you put before Him will ever last!

When relationships take the place of God, we cut God out of very important areas of our lives. We’ll start to lack discernment; better decision making.

Other areas will start to suffer as well. It causes you to become consumed with worry, resentment and bitterness.

If you constantly look to other people for answers and validation, pray about this and ask the Lord to help you stop doing that and instead look to Him.

Remember to lean on Him more than anything else, and tell Him, “God, I want to do this, but I can’t do it without You.”

It’s not too late to get back on track with God. Make Him the head of your household.

Make Him a priority, not an option. Keep Him first today and everyday.
