“I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5)
I love the opportunity to walk alone at times for I find that it is very therapeutic and allows me time to meditate and spend time with God without distraction. But, sadly, there are many people in the world that are alone not because they want to be, but because of tragedy or broken relationships. For example, an elderly couple that had been married for sixty years and then all of a sudden, the husband dies and leaves his wife behind and then shortly thereafter you hear of her dying as well.
This reaffirmed to me how relational we are as human beings and how we have been created on this earth to be a part of each other lives. We are not an “island unto ourselves” and we need relationships in order to adequately function. That is why, in the beginning of creation, God created Eve for Adam. For He stated “that is wasn’t good for man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18)
As we look at our health and the benefits of relationships, statistically it has been shown that a happily married couple lives much longer than a single person. We need people in our lives for it is hard to go through challenges and difficulties on your own. It’s a great source of strength and encouragement to have someone in your corner that is “your cheerleader” and supports you along the way!
But what if we don’t have those great support systems and people in our lives? Well, you are definitely not alone. God is the greatest father, friend, confidant and support system anyone can ever have. Even though we need people in our lives, sometimes people aren’t there when we need them to be. It happens to the best of us, but, irrespective of that, there is one who will stick closer to you than anyone and that is God!
God promises us that “When we go through deep waters, He would be there for us. When we go `through rivers of difficulty, we would not drown, as well as, when we walk through the fire of oppression, we wouldn’t be burned up, for He is the Lord, our God, the Holy One of Israel, Our Savior (Isaiah 43:2, 3).” Now who do you know can make such promises and then keep them? No one, but God. That is why it is so reassuring to know who your true source is. I know who my source is and that is why I seek the Lord for His help daily and His will to be performed in my life for His glory.
Don’t ever allow circumstances, people that walk out of your life or anything that may transpire in your life to make you think you are alone. God is always near and open to your cries and is never too busy to hear you when you pray and commune with Him. God loves you very much and not a day goes by that He isn’t watching over your life and keeping you safe from dangers unimaginable.
In conclusion, when you are tempted to start feeling overwhelmed and feeling like you are by yourself and that no one understands your pain and all that you are going through, affix your eyes on God! Remember that Jesus came on this earth, suffered, bled and died for your benefit. He considered you so valuable that He atoned for your sins and for mine and that atonement, within itself, is a true testament of His unconditional love for all of mankind!
For God so loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
