There are some people in our lives that will always remind us of our sin and who will never show us true grace. Whether it be a friend or family member or an acquaintance. And there seems to be certain ‘sins’ that people judge us for more than others.
Now accountability is a good thing because when someone sees us going towards sin, they love us enough to tell us in protective love.
However, after we have done something wrong, the worst thing is for someone to remind us of our sin and tell us how awful it was, or how awful we are. This is because instead of embracing God’s good grace we are being driven towards guilt which in turn, creates a wall to forgiveness and healing. And there is a difference between condemnation and conviction.
Conviction from the holy spirit, allows us to realize our sin and ask for forgiveness, whereas condemnation drives us away from the grace of God’s heart and leads us straight into guilt. And if you can’t move past guilt you can never move to faith and embrace God’s grace.
In my own brokenness, and because of my divorce, I still have people in my life that remind me that I am a sinner. Though I have wholeheartedly asked and received forgiveness, people still like to remind me of my sin.
But I must live by the word of God, which says, that when we ask for forgiveness that, He remembers our sin no more, it is as far as the East is from the West.
However, it seems that certain sins can be less forgiven by others. Sins like sex before marriage, adultery, divorce, or abortion. Sin is sin and all sin is awful. But why are these sins less sinful: lying, stealing, gossiping, slander or even envy?
If you have repented, you don’t have to live in guilt anymore. Once you have asked for forgiveness, you have received forgiveness and you can proclaim it. Standing in grace, you can claim a beautifully renewed and redeemed life in Christ.
After my divorce last year, I was completely broken because of guilt. I felt I had no worth because I was enveloped in guilt instead of embraced in the grace of God’s heart.
No matter what you have done, I want you to know that you are loved and valuable. You are precious. It’s not too late to accept God’s grace and mercy.
At my darkest hour, Jesus picked me up and because of a special group of women in my prayer circle, I came back to grace again.
If there is one thing I want to say to you today, it is this: There is nothing, absolutely nothing that you can do to separate you from the love of God.
There is no sin too great, no mistake too far reaching and no choice that cannot be covered by the grace of the cross. You are freed because of the cross.
If someone cannot see you with the eyes of Jesus, then they cannot see you with the grace of God’s heart.
Walk in victory today, you are so, so loved.
‘’Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’’. (Romans 8:39)
