This past school year I accepted a teaching position at a new school. It is in a great area and has an awesome reputation. I was beyond excited when I was offered the position. After starting I worked my hardest to make sure that my students were successful. However, I quickly noticed that the students that were put in my classroom were the students that other teachers didn’t want. Some had behavior problems and others had very low Reading scores. They had dumped them all on me! I had one student in particular, “Susie” who was very disruptive. She exhibited…

Facebook now has a feature that allows you to look back at memories from past years; ‘On This Day’. Well today it reminded me of something. I remembered an event that happened three years ago this week—one that changed the trajectory of my life and my eternity. This was an event that shattered my world, broke my heart, so painful. It was an event that left me feeling so lost and so a lone. However, it’s also an event that started a beautiful walk with Christ— a journey which truly demonstrates how God turns everything to good for His glory. It was…

It was a serene Saturday night as I was on my way to church for a Young Adult Ministry engagement. The topic of discussion that night was: “Finding Purpose.” I was listening to a powerful song entitled, “Let It Be Known” by gospel artist, Casey J . The first line of her song simply says, “Let it be known that our God saves.” As I was chanting this simple yet provocative line, all I felt was intense and immediate impact. Before I could comprehend that another car had collided into me, I was swirling in circles several times over into…

My devotion earlier this week dealt with the woman at the well’s encounter with Jesus in John 4:1-42. I have read this story countless times. In fact, I can recount it from memory. But the Holy Spirit showed me the passage in a different light this time around. After the woman had her encounter with Jesus, the text says in John 4:28-29 28 The woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”…

I remember so clearly, a time when my heart was broken.  And boy do I mean broken! It was an awful time in my life.  In my mind there was no way on God’s green earth that this man who’d professed his love for me over and over again for nearly a year and a half was suddenly walking out on me.  He had come on so strong and determined to acquire my love.  From the very beginning he’d made it perfectly clear to everyone that knew us that I was going to be his wife. But sadly in the late evening hours…

I grew up in the Deep South in the middle of the Bible belt. Going to church was a way of life for us. We went to church every Sunday and most Wednesdays. And almost everyone I knew did the same. Interestingly, however, my parents rarely went with me. From the time I can remember, I was driven to the front door of the church and dropped off, then picked up after services were done. As I grew older, this made me very uncomfortable. All of my friends had their parents with them. Why couldn’t mine just come to church, too?! One…
