Eleven years ago, I met a woman through training for a particular job and befriended her. I befriended her because at that time she appeared to share the same moral values as I.Though we have different religious backgrounds, she being Muslim and I being a Christian, I believed that I can shine for Jesus through that friendship. I am a very caring person finding it difficult to say no to people when they ask for help, so I willingly helped her out as she was separated and the mother of three (3) children who was in need of help. When…
Most people by now have settled nicely into “the most wonderful time of the year”. The holidays are a time for love, laughter, family and warm memories. It’s also a time when single people can feel an increased sense of isolation. With so many images of perfectly poised couples both…
Being single is a time for reflection and preparation. When you stop chasing the wrong ones, you give the right one a chance to catch you.
We live in a competitive world. From schools, offices, businesses, even in our own homes sometimes we deal with competition. Constantly competing can be tiring. You spend your energy trying to be better than the other person, and when you think you are not good enough, you end up feeling frustrated. You never win when you compete with others. The best way to win a competition is to beat your own record yesterday. Oprah Winfrey said “when you run a race, it takes energy to look back and check how the other guys are doing, and you take…

Clark Kent needs to go inside the telephone booth to change his costume from a low profile journalist to the famous Man of Steel. Batman needs his gadgets and gizmos to fight against the most notorious criminals of Gotham City. Green Lantern must always wear his ring. Do you know that like them, you can also be a hero? No, you will not need to change your look or bring or wear something hi-tech. You don’t even need to earn a black belt in the martial arts. Bestselling author Bo Sanchez said, “When you start to care for others…
My sister and I were having a conversation about me not dating. I turn everybody down. I don’t give my number out, don’t accept any and I pretty much stay indoors as best as I can. So she asked me why (as she does on a consistent basis) and each time I give her a different answer that sounds reasonable: I’m too busy, he’s not saved, he parties too much… and the list goes on. Truth is, I just didn’t know how to tell her that I had a word from God and dating just isn’t in his plans for…
You can never please everybody. No matter how hard you may try. It will only drive you crazy. No matter how hard you work, for some people, your effort will never be enough. No matter how much you try to force it, some things are not meant to be. No matter how tightly you hold on to something or someone, not everyone and everything is meant to last or stay. No matter how genuine and sincere the friendship you offer, and no matter how loyal you are, some people will still betray you, and there will still be those who will hate…
It’s Friday Night. The kids are home. Sometimes it’s refreshing just to spend a nice quiet night at home with the family instead of heading outdoors for some family fun. Most people either hate or fear being alone. This may be because society often associates isolation to loneliness or being unwanted. So people endure being with someone or in a group rather than being seen alone. This notion can do more harm than good to an individual especially when choosing to be with the wrong set of people. Here are 5 reasons why sometimes you are better off alone: 1. You are better off alone because it makes you realize that you are enough. You hold the key to your own happiness. You do not seek approval or validation from…
Hello Praying Woman readers, I want to say thank you guys for all of your encouragement and wisdom filled advice. Even though I have never written in to The Praying Woman before, I’ve learned a lot from some of the advice given to other readers. Now it’s my turn. I’ve been following the story of Brittany Maynard, a terminally ill 29yr old who decided to end her life under the “Death With Dignity” law. A lot of people have argued that it’s nothing short of suicide and a year ago I would have agreed. My mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Like Brittany, she was also diagnosed with a life expectancy of just 6 months. Even before being diagnosed, I have watched my mom suffer so much. She’s in so much pain, she hardly sleeps. She literally is exhausted because she stays up days at a…

Brittany Maynard, 29, a terminally ill woman who’s made headlines for her decision to end her life, may not do so on the scheduled date of Nov. 1, she said in a new video posted Wednesday. After her wedding last year, Maynard began having severe headaches, and in January was diagnosed with grade II astrocytoma. Doctors initially gave her 10 years to live, but subsequent scans showed the tumor progressed into glioblastoma multiforme, the deadliest form of cancer. In April she was given just 6 months to live. The family moved to Oregon where the state’s “Death with Dignity Act”…
I had my bathroom redone a few years ago and so the tiles on the walls are fairly new. Today as I went about the task of cleaning them, for whatever reason, I just could not get a few of the stains between the tiles to move. I went into my arsenal and got out all the name-brand cleaners. I tried every single one – sprayed and let soak. I noticed, however, that instead of removing the stains, they actually turned the area white (due to the bleach). Maybe I had used too many cleaners or maybe I had used…
